Vacant for over a decade, the site at Ewenny Road Industrial Estate was recently granted outline planning permission by the council for 201 residential units, an enterprise/employability hub, public open spaces, retail and for all associated works and engineering operations to be completed subject to the signing of agreements.
Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) funding has also been made available to undertake a programme of works to prepare the site for development. These separate works are currently out for tender and expected to be complete by the end of the year.
The project forms part of Bridgend County Borough Council’s Local Development Plan, with the council adding that a strategy has been developed to ensure that the project meets local housing, employment, and transportation needs.
The cleared brownfield site, which is the biggest in Bridgend County Borough’s valleys, consists of 16.31 acres and is available for sale.
This forms part of a larger combined area totalling 19.03 acres. The council say the remaining section will be retained by Bridgend County Borough Council and reserved for the development of a transport interchange and employment uses.
Cllr Rhys Goode, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Planning and Regeneration, said: “This development is yet another example of our ambitious plan for the county borough and transformational projects like this one have the ability to positively impact the community for generations to come.
“The project has been in the planning stages for a number of years and a lot of work has taken place to ensure that the masterplan covers all bases to reflect the modern infrastructure that we want to create. As part of this, we are also looking to create sustainable homes which further demonstrates our commitment to the environment.
“It has been a long-term aim of the council to unlock the potential of this site and I am excited to see the project progress along with the many economic and social benefits that it will bring to the Llynfi Valley and Bridgend County Borough as a whole.”
The site is currently being marketed by estate agents, Savills.
