Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
In a statement, the palace said: “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
The King paid tribute to his mother in a further statement on social media.
