22-year-old flanker Taylor has linked up with the squad with immediate effect and is in line to make his debut in the United Rugby Championship fixture against Munster at Parc y Scarlets on Friday night.
A former South African Schools international, Taylor has been playing Currie Cup rugby for Western Province, scoring four tries in six starts.
Taylor met up with his new team-mates at Parc y Scarlets on Monday morning having signed a contract for the remainder of the current season and beyond.
The addition of the South African will be a boost to the region who are currently missing flanker and captain Josh Macleod with a long-term knee injury, while Taine Plumtree has been sidelined with a shoulder problem.
Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel commenting on his new signing said:
“Jarrod is a player who has impressed us with his performances in the Currie Cup and has an outstanding pedigree in South African schools rugby.
“He is an abrasive player, with and without the ball and is strong in the contact area. He will add to the young group of back-rowers we already have at the club.”
