The 27-year-old joined the Swans last summer, in a move believed to be worth around £2.5m and finished the season as the club’s joint top scorer alongside Jamal Lowe with nine goals in all competitions.

The Rams, who were promoted after finishing second behind League One winners Portsmouth last term, are expected to complete the deal in the next few days.

Swansea Bay News understands that Derby have no option or obligation to buy placed into the deal but will cover the players wages for the duration of the loan.

Fellow Championship clubs Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City have also reportedly been keen on Yates.

The Swans are understood to be working hard to strengthen their depleted front-line resources for head coach Luke Williams with Liam Cullen and Mykola Kukharevych the only first team strikers at the Londoner’s disposal.

With on-loan Lowe unlikely to return to south Wales and Jamie Paterson’s future still up in the air, with five weeks to go to the start of the Championship season, the former Notts County boss will be keen to add to his front-line sooner rather than later.

Macaulay Langstaff is clearly a name Williams likes, however, several other clubs have been linked with his services, the most recent being Championship rivals Millwall.

The Swans have also been linked with South Korea international winger Eom Ji-Sung, of K-League side Gwangju.

Reports in Korea suggest Swansea have lodged a bid with Gwangju of around £800,000 for the once-capped player, who netted against Iceland on his international bow in January 2022. The Asian side though are unlikely to deal under seven figures.
