The former Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth, Stoke City and Southampton striker amassed over 600 appearances in his club career and played for the England National side on 42 occasions where he scored 22 goals.
Since retirement Crouch has gone on to be a regular media pundit and podcaster where he presents the popular Therapy Crouch with his wife of 18-years, model Abbey Clancy.
Crouch, ever the comedian, speaking to Abbey on the latest episode revealed that amazingly whilst at school he learned all the words to the Welsh National Anthem before the English one.
After a spell living in Singapore as a child the Crouch family moved back to England to North Ealing in London.
It was there that he was hot-housed in the Welsh national anthem thanks to a passionate Welshman at his school.
Explaining how he learnt Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau there, he told Abbey:
“I had a Welsh headmaster who made us learn the Welsh national anthem, and I knew that before the national anthem.”
After encouragement from his wife giggling he then broke into song – getting the words right – but admitted that he didn’t understand what he was singing.
“We are all English in an English school and Mr Evans made the whole school learn the national anthem of Wales.”
“Fair play to him, and it’s something I’ve never forgotten.
“Obviously, there will be many Welsh people who will listen to this and say that it is not correct in terms of dialect at all, but I still remember the anthem.”
It is the not the first time Crouch has sung the national anthem on air. In 2018 he sang on a Radio 5 Live sport programme, and told the hosts he had sung it once whilst playing at Liverpool impressing Swansea City star Joe Allen who were teammates at the time.
