Williams optimistic on new signings but admits it may go down to the wire.

Swansea City head-coach Luke Williams is confident the club will make additions in the last seven days of the January transfer window with both players coming in and out of the club.

Speaking ahead of the Swans FA Cup fourth-round tie against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium tomorrow night, Williams is also hopeful the club can tie down wide man Yannick Bolasie to new terms which will last until the end of the season.

“We have people lined up that we are trying to get a deal done with, but it is probably fair to say the whole market is moving slowly,” said Williams.

“I have seen some impressive stuff from Andy Coleman he has not got his feet up, but it is difficult.

“There is a lot going on, but it is probably a good thing that you don’t know too many bits of information.

“Players have options and are trying to wait. Unless you have a relationship previously where the player will say I want to go play for that person, these deals do not get done quickly.

“If a player is moving to a new club, doesn’t know anyone and is just making a big leap of faith they will try to weigh up everything. What we have to do is be the most attractive proposition at the end of it all.

“It looks like it is going to be a late flurry so let’s see what happens.”

“I am optimistic that there will be activity by the end of the window. What I will say is even if it is not what everyone is hoping for, it won’t be for the want of trying.

Whilst the Swans are looking to make additions, the former Notts County number one admitted there will be departures from SA1 this month.

One player however that the Londoner would like to keep is Yannick Bolasie who Williams says has been offered fresh terms on a deal to keep the Congo international to the end of the season.

However, there are no current negotiations with several of the club’s players whose current deals expire come the end of the season. Joe Allen, Jamie Paterson, Liam Walsh and Liam Cullen’s contracts all come to an end come May, although it is understood the club has an option to extend Cullen’s for an extra year.

“It is realistic that one or two players will go to try and find game time,” continued Williams.

“For some, it is part of their development and for some, they are not getting the minutes that they really want.

“I think it is a good opportunity for those guys [out of contract in May] to say we have a new manager so let’s show him how we can play and that we want to be here. We need a bit more time together and then we start to talk later in the season.

“I spoke with Yannick [Bolasie], he has one or two things he has to weigh up. He is an experienced guy and has other options.

“He is training well and is focused. It isn’t a commitment thing; he is just in a different stage of his career where he has to think about things a bit more deeply.

“If everyone can be happy, yes. [I would like to keep Bolasie to the end of the season]. I like a lot of what Yannick is about.

“All of those things will be happening in the very near future.”
