Frustrated Williams seeking stronger leadership as Swans sink to defeat against Potters.

Swansea City head coach Luke Williams bemoaned his side's lack of game management after the Swans were beaten 3-1 by Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium this afternoon.

The Swans took the lead midway through the second-half with former Potter Josh Tymon netting after the away side had enjoyed the majority of play in the contest.

Stoke, however, would create the better of the chances in the 90 minutes and would pounce on defensive errors, replying instantly with Wouter Burger’s header after poor tracking on a set-piece.

Bae-Jun Ho scored a decisive second in similar circumstances stealing a yard on his marker ten minutes later, before Williams’ miserable afternoon was compounded deep into stoppage time with the Potters third.

Substitute Lewis Baker scoring from his own half in spectacular style to seal a first win for new Stoke boss Mark Robins.

The result left the Swans in 17th position in the Championship table, eight points above the relegation zone after their seventh defeat in eight games, whilst Stoke move up to 19th – two points behind Williams’ side.

“It’s incredibly disappointing because it was a decent performance, there was absolutely no need to come away with nothing,” said a frustrated Williams after the match.

“We just made terrible decisions after we took the lead, giving away cheap free-kicks and then we did not mark people in the box from the delivery.

“It’s nearly impossible to get beaten 3-1 when you score that first goal late in the game, I’m incredible disappointed.

“Ok the third goal is a wonder goal. If we’d conceded that to go 1-1, we’d have had to take it.

“But we were already out of the game because we conceded two goals from set-pieces that didn’t need to happen.

“We were away from home. We dominated almost every aspect of the game and scored first.

“It’s ridiculous to then get anxious or something and give away cheap free kicks, then compound that by not defending the box properly.

“We need people to take some responsibility and lead on the pitch for us because we can perform well enough to score the first goal often. We then need to be tougher and to take responsibility on the pitch.

“We are still eight points away from the danger zone, but we have wasted so many opportunities. We now need leadership to help us get some points on the board.”
