Yalcouye, is believed to have been a prime target for Swans head coach Alan Sheehan, who believes the 19-year-old can be a key player at the Championship club this season.
The Ivory Coast Under-23 cap, who spent the last season on loan at Sturm Graz, is expected to complete his move on Wednesday, pending a medical with the club, who hope to have his international clearance through before Saturday’s first home league clash against Sheffield United.
Yalcouye, who is highly regarded at Brighton by boss Fabian Hürzeler is seen as the long-term successor to Manchester United target Carlos Baleba. Whilst on loan the youngster made 26 league appearances as the Austrian side won their domestic title, and played eight times in the Champions League.
He joined Brighton for a reported £6m fee in the summer of 2024 having made just 11 senior appearances for Swedish side IFK Gothenburg.
It is hoped that Yalcouye will be a direct replacement for box-to-box midfielder Lewis O’Brien in the Swans engine room, with his energy and dynamism seen as similar qualities to what the Wrexham man brought during the second half of the season to Sheehan’s side.
Although born in Mail, Yalcouye also holds citizenship for the Ivory Coast and is under contract at Brighton until 2029.
Yalcouye will be Swansea’s eighth signing of the summer, with Bobby Wales, Zeidane Inoussa, Ricardo Santos, Cameron Burgess, Ethan Galbraith and Paul Farman all joining on permanent deals and Keelan Casey joining on loan.
