Today marks a year since the country entered its first national lockdown in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
March 23 has become a National Day of Reflection – an opportunity to pay respects to all those that we’ve lost to Covid-19 and to pay tribute to all those that have worked on the frontline and supported our communities in so many ways these last 12 months.
Carmarthenshire Council have produced a video that highlights the efforts that it’s taken in helping the community through the pandemic over the past year
Today, flags will be flown at half-mast at Llanelli, Carmarthen and Ammanford’s main council buildings.
This evening, County Hall in Carmarthen will be illuminated yellow as part of a national tribute, and at 12pm staff will join the nation in observing a minute’s silence to pause and reflect on the experience of the last year.
In a statement, Carmarthenshire Council said: “This has been a shared experience, yet an experience we’ll remember in different ways.
“We can remember the remarkable community spirit, we can remember the extraordinary efforts of our frontline workers, and we can remember how we stepped up in the face of adversity.
“We are beginning our journey towards recovery, but there is more to be done. We can get through this by continuing to adhere to the rules and following the advice.
“Let’s continue to take care of each other and show respect, and kindness.”
