Ffos Las report: A meeting in favour of the bookies but Welsh jockeys shine on Monday’s card

Hellfire Princess picked up the victory in the opening race of the day, a two and a half mile handicap hurdle in class five, for trainer Kerry Lee at a price of 4/1, scoring by a length and a quarter from Neeps And Tatties in second and 5/2 joint favourite Queen Of Steel back in third.

The Welsh combo of jockey Ben Jones and Rebecca Curtis picked up the win in race two on the Ffos Las card, another two and a half mile contest in class five, this time a handicap chase. Boston Joe was the winner at a price of 3/1 despite not being all too fluent over the second last fence, winning by three-quarters of a length from El Rojo Grande in second.

A small field of four took on the two and a half mile novices hurdle to mark race three on the card and this one went the way of the punters with Lon Chaney, trained by Olly Murphy and ridden by Welshman Sean Bowen, landing an odds-on victory by a very comfortable seven and a half lengths from Whiskey Yankee in second.

Big City Roller, trained by Charlie Longsdon, was the winner of race four, a three-mile handicap chase in class three and the feature race of the day. The 17/2 chance was hampered throughout, especially four and five fences out from home, but kept on well in the latter stages to get the win for jockey Lily Pinchin by a narrow half a length from Alfie’s Princess.

Jack’s Jury was a 9/1 winner of the two and  half mile handicap hurdle in class four for carmarthenshire trainer Barry John Murphy, a three and a half length winner under Callum Pritchard from 5/2 favourite Up To Trix in second.

The card came to a close with a mares bumper in class five and this one went the way of another favourite and brought up a double on the card for trainer Charlie Longsdon as Galatrona was a very comfortable nine-length scorer, making all from the wire and going well clear inside the final furlong to land the odds comfortably under jockey Jonathan Burke.
