The quick service restaurant chain which is best known for its fried chicken sandwiches, has more than 4000 restaurants around the World, expanded from the US into the UK in late 2021.
Currently there are 36 locations in the UK which include five drive-thru sites, and employ 2,300 workers. Now there are plans to open another 30 with Swansea one of the locations.
On Monday the chicken restaurant chain revealed the plans which is estimated would create around 2000 jobs.
The new Popeyes restaurant in Swansea which will be one of the first drive thru’s in Wales and will be located at Enterprise Park, Llansamlet, Swansea, SA7 9RG.
Popeyes will be part of Days Property Holdings Ltd project announced in September on nine-acres of vacant, brownfield land within the area referred to as Swansea East Trade Park. A national builders merchant, industrial units, car showroom and drive-thru Greggs will occupy the development.
The expansion plans come just two weeks after TDR Capital, the private equity firm which part-owns Asda, increased its shareholding to take effective control of Popeyes UK.
Chief development officer at Popeyes, Tom Byng, said:
“We opened our first store in November 2021, to huge hype and acclaim, and customer appetite shows no sign of slowing down.
“To date, we’ve opened 38 locations up and down the country, and converted legions of fried chicken fans to Popeyes.
“We’re excited to be giving even more people their first taste of New Orleans as we double our estate in 2024.
“We’re particularly proud of our geographical spread of expansion, including our first ever travel hub restaurant in Waterloo station, which will be fuelling hungry travellers with great food and a dose of the famous New Orleans spirit.”
