Centre half Rob Dickie scored the only goal of the game for the Robins, powering home Joe Williams’ corner with 20 minutes to play to end the hosts run of four defeats on the trot on their own patch.
It would be a frustrating afternoon for the Swans who had come into the game with optimism after seven points from nine had started to build momentum in their challenge to finish the season on a high.
Much like on Wednesday night against Watford, however, a set-piece would be the undoing of the Swans after a dominant performance in possession just lacked a cutting edge.
The Swans did have rare opportunities at goal with Przemysław Płacheta shooting into the side netting when well-placed and Liam Cullen’s dipping long-range effort would narrowly missing the target.
It was though a disappointing defeat for Williams who would admit his side were not good enough at either end of the pitch.
“We didn’t do enough to win the game, unfortunately,” said Williams.
“We were able to control a lot of the game with the ball, but we didn’t create enough openings. The few chances we did have we were not clinical with.
“It’s very disappointing. We need to concentrate on the set-piece and make sure we have the determination to do our jobs. It’s so frustrating.
“If you switch off in the box and concede a goal it makes it very difficult because the opposition will then defend the lead.
“I don’t think we should be disappointed with the way we performed overall. We just need more of a cutting edge and to be ruthless in front of goal.
“We are very hurt and disappointed with the result, but we will take the positives that we have come away from home and dominated for the most part.
“We just need to go a step further and make sure we convert that into creating great chances and win.”
