The Swans boss felt his players did not perform in the first period of the match and despite a stronger showing after the break were always up against it once they were behind.
In a dominant half for the midlands side, there would be numerous opportunities for the unbeaten Baggies looking to once again be amongst the play-off contenders come May.
After a string of impressive saves from Swans keeper Lawrence Vigouroux, an impressive intricate move of quality from forward Josh Maja and Jayson Molumby finally broke the deadlock with the latter slotting home in first-half stoppage time.
The Swans would improve after the break with Ji-Sung Eom at the heart of the early bright movements. The South Korean would go down in the box under the challenge of home goalkeeper Alex Palmer giving the officials something to think about, but to no avail.
That would be the story of the second period as Williams’ side would push with chances for Frano and Eom but would just lack a little quality in the final third to trouble Carlos Corberán’s side.

Despite the Swans pressure, they would be in debt to Vigouroux to keep the score to just a solitary strike with saves from substitutes Uros Racic and Lewis Dobbin, whilst midfielder Tom Fellows would blaze over with the goal at his mercy.
The match would finish with just one goal in it but would leave the Swans boss undoubtedly with much to mull over.

“I think we were outclassed in the first-half completely then we are probably the stronger side in the second,” said Williams post-match.
“We were chasing a 1-0 deficit and gave ourselves too much to do.
“Potentially, if we had weathered the storm [to go in at 0-0] and come out with the same attitude in the second-half and believed in ourselves more with more energy and intensity then maybe we would come away with a point.
“We let ourselves down a bit. The guys defended the box well under pressure until late until they conceded the goal.
“It’s disappointing. I’m not too unhappy with the players because I think the second-half performance is something we should be pleased with – but we left it too late.
“There is a penalty shout which could have made a huge difference for us in the game.
“The big disappointment is the way we were within ourselves first-half and didn’t express ourselves properly.
“If the players can believe in themselves more in this type of atmosphere, then they can release themselves to play the game in the way that we want to play. We can then go to these places and get good results.”
The Swans had given a first league start to Slovenian international forward Žan Vipotnik after fellow front man Liam Cullen had failed a fitness test in the build-up to the match.
The Swans boss revealed that Cullen has an ankle injury but hopes the Welsh international will be able to return after the international break.
“Vipi [Žan Vipotnik] is not quite in the condition that we want him to be, and he looked like he was flagging,” continued Williams.
“Ollie [Cooper] has incredible energy and has great attacking instincts, so he did a shift there [as a striker for the last 30 minutes].
“I think potentially, we have the opportunity to do that with a few of the other players who can play in that nine position.
“Liam [Cullen] will only be a few days. Unfortunately, he picked something up in the last game. He tried to train but it was too much of a problem.
“We had the scan so we know the extent of the injury and it will be around ten days and he will be fine.”
