Wilson brace inspires Swans under-21s to Bristol City triumph

Forward Kyrell Wilson scored two and made one as Swansea City’s Under-21 side moved into third place in the Professional Development League South this afternoon with a 3-1 win over Bristol City at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Wilson’s double and a late Charlie Veevers strike would be enough to earn the young Swans the three points in a dominant win despite Robins striker Ollie Thomas levelling the scoreline just after the break.

It is now 15 goals for the season for Wilson who calmly slotted the young Swans into the lead from 12-yards from winger Ben Lloyd’s lay-off early in the first-half.

The home side would be comfortable in a stop-started game and should have further extended their lead into the break.

Lloyd’s half-volley forced Bristol keeper Jack Witchard into a smart save, before Wales under-21 midfielder Cameron Congreve would test the palms of the young Robins stopper once more.

Bristol came out with more intent in the second-half and would catch the Swans defense cold minutes after the break.

Having seen an effort denied minutes earlier by Swans goalkeeper Evan Watts, Thomas would find himself in space in the box to place Tommy Backwell’s pass into the corner to level proceedings.

That would be as good as it got for the visitors as Anthony Wright’s side would find an extra gear and take charge of the game.

Wilson showing good movement to find space to fire in his second of the game via a deflection from Congreve’s pass, before the 19-year-old would burst free on the counter-attack before laying off to Veevers for his first goal of the season to wrap up the afternoons scoring.

Under-21 Coach Anthony Wright said:

“I’m pleased with the result, and we had a lot of control and patience throughout the game. We did feel as a group that we had the edge in intensity.

“There were so many positives to take, we created a lot of chances, which we didn’t actually take.

“Overall, I’m pleased for the boys and they deserved that result. We are highly self-critical as a group, because we have high standards, and there are things we can improve, but there was a lot to be happy with.”
