Swansea communities to get upgraded CCTV

Communities across Swansea, including Gorseinon, Morriston, Pontarddulais and Uplands are to get upgraded CCTV systems the council has announced.

The council have announced CCTV upgrades in the Uplands district centre, Bracelet Bay car park and Pontarddulais where work is being completed in the coming months.

Further upgrades also being rolled out in Gorseinon, the city centre, council housing estates and Morriston.

The plans have also seen the council’s existing central CCTV control room upgraded.

Andrew Stevens, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: “The programme of CCTV upgrades and new installations are already in progress. Important infrastructure is being fitted in the busy Uplands district centre this month ahead of installing a new generation of CCTV cameras as soon as possible afterwards.

“Our CCTV programme aims to support our communities in the years ahead, support the police and other emergency services to help keep people safe, deterring crime and anti-social behaviour and reducing the fear of crime too.”

Cllr Stevens said: “The opening of Swansea Arena alongside all the other city centre developments coming in the next few years means we needed to upgrade our CCTV systems there.”

The council said that neighbourhood CCTV on council estates have also been upgraded with new high-definition cameras as part of the council’s effort to work with the police and local communities to support residents and tenants to help people feel safe and reduce anti-social behaviour.
