Woman hospitalised with ‘life-threatening injuries’ after Loughor house fire

One woman has been hospitalised with “life-threatening injuries” and three more people treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire in Loughor

House fire on Pen-y-Cae Lane in Loughor

Fire crews from Gorseinon, Llanelli, Morriston, Swansea Central and Tumble in Carmarthenshire attended the dormer bungalow property in Loughor.

Police closed the main Borough Road through the town while efforts continued to extinguish the fire in the living room at the rear of the property.

The Wales Air Ambulance was also in attendance as a 68-year old woman was rushed to hospital with “life-threatening injuries”.

Three other people are said to have been treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital.

A statement from South Wales Police says: “This morning (May 23) we assisted at the scene of a house fire at a property on Pen-y-Cae Lane, Loughor, Swansea.

“A 68-year-old woman has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“Three other people have been treated for smoke inhalation.

“Borough Road has been re-opened. Pen-y-Cae Lane remains closed.”

A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 6.06am on Thursday, May 23rd, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Gorseinon, Llanelli, Tumble, Morriston and Swansea Central Fire Stations were called to an incident in Pen-y-Cae Lane, Loughor.

“Crews responded to a fire within a dormer bungalow measuring approximately 15 x 10m, the fire was located in a living room at the rear of the property.

“Crews utilised six breathing apparatus sets, three hose reel jets, two thermal imaging cameras and two main jets to extinguish the fire. Smoke damage was present throughout the entire property. Four casualties from the property were taken to hospital by ambulance.

“This incident required a multi-agency response, with the Welsh Ambulance Services Trust, South Wales Police and Air Ambulance also in attendance.

“Crews left the scene at 8.52am.”
