New season of documentary project to celebrate Gower set for University premiere
The latest part of a unique film project involving students, staff and the community to showcase the beauty of Gower will receive its premiere at Swansea University’s Taliesin Arts Centre next month.
The screening of season two of the Gŵyr documentary series is being held to coincides with World Environment Day on Wednesday 5 June.
Shot entirely in Gower and South Wales, the series is a collection of films which each capture elements of local history, culture and natural resources.
Director and producer Georgios Dimitropoulos, media lecturer in Swansea University’s School of Culture and Communication, said: “Following success at film festivals and picking up 17 awards, the Gŵyr documentary series is coming home to celebrate our region’s stunning biodiversity, unique ecosystems, culture and rich history.
“From the tidal events to the majestic coastal landscapes, our films blend Welsh culture with the natural world’s rhythms. You can witness the local history, culture, flora, and fauna that make our region unique.
“This co-production project is driven by our commitment to sustainable development through the arts and culture. Each film is a step towards understanding and preserving the natural and cultural heritage of Gower and Wales.”
The event will also feature a Q&A session with Georgios, the production team, and environmental experts when they will share the stories behind the films, discuss their impactful themes, and explore solutions for a sustainable future.
The screening takes place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 5 June.
