A disused industrial car park, close to the border between Neath Port Talbot and Swansea, could be transformed into a housing estate of 165 homes according to new proposals.
The 11 acre site on Elba Crescent is adjacent to existing housing and just opposite Swansea University’s Bay Campus on Fabian Way.
The former Visteon plant, part of which was recently used by Swansea Bay University health Board as a COVID field hospital and mass vaccination centre, borders the proposed development site.
Outline plans have been submitted to Neath Port Talbot Council for the scheme, which includes landscaping and a play area. Two vehicle entrances to the estate off Elba Crescent are proposed in addition to a separate pedestrian and cycling access point.
A mixture of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bed houses and apartments have been proposed as part of the scheme, surrounded by “a strong landscape buffer” along the north, east and western boundaries adjacent to the existing commercial and industrial buildings.
While details of the appearance of the new homes have yet to be submitted, planning documents say that these will complement the existing Elba Crescent properties in a “modern style”.
