Chartwells Universities has secured a renewed long-term catering contract with Swansea University, extending a partnership that began in 2021 and committing more capital investment across the university’s two campuses.

Chartwells Universities division is responsible for catering and food services at Swansea University, with the refreshed deal building on more than £2.5 million already invested since the start of the alliance.

The latest phase includes additional capital funding for refurbishment works and changes to food service delivery, although the overall contract value and duration have not been disclosed.

Planned works include a rotating dark kitchen offering that operates across both campuses, providing a mix of healthy and affordable food options. Seasonal food pop-up stations are also due to be introduced in main staff and student social spaces.

The contract includes the rollout of 24/7 catering provision through smart vending technology, offering fresh hot and cold food. These solutions will be installed at both locations.

Carbon labelling will also be introduced across campus food marketing and digital platforms.

Swansea University’s Taliesin Arts Centre Café & Bar will undergo a refurbishment as part of the programme. The space will introduce a daytime food and drink menu for students and staff, with plans for an evening service for theatre and cinema audiences.

Digital services form part of the contract through the use of Compass Group’s Time2Eat platform, which supports click-and-collect ordering, delivery to tables or student accommodation, and access to promotions and loyalty schemes alongside traditional counter service outlets.

Rachel Carter, managing director at Chartwells Universities, said:

“We’re proud to continue our partnership with Swansea University and invest in a future-focused dining experience that reflects the needs of today’s students and staff.
