Swansea Bay News is an independent local news publication covering Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire, with additional coverage of Bridgend County and Pembrokeshire. We have published continuously since November 2020. We are not affiliated with any political party, campaign group or commercial interest.
Editorial responsibility
All editorial decisions — what we publish, and how it is presented — are the responsibility of the editor, Kit Peters. The editor can be contacted at editor@swanseabaynews.com. Nothing is published without editorial approval.
Accuracy
We aim to get things right first time. Facts are checked before publication and claims are attributed to their source. We distinguish between what an organisation says and what has been independently verified. Where a story draws on another outlet’s original reporting, we credit and link to it. When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently — see Corrections below.
Fairness and right of reply
Where a story contains criticism or allegations against a named person or organisation, we seek their response before publication and report contested claims as contested, not as fact. When we say someone has been approached for comment, an approach has genuinely been made.
Court reporting and the law
We follow the law on contempt of court. While proceedings are active, we report only the facts that can safely be published: who has been charged, with what, and when they next appear. We do not assume guilt, and we attribute all information to the police or the court. Concluded cases are reported fully and fairly.
Privacy
We name individuals only where there is a clear public interest or they appear in the public record, such as a criminal charge or published judgment. Comments from members of the public on social media are paraphrased rather than quoted and named. We take particular care with stories involving children and vulnerable people.
Sensitive subjects
We follow responsible reporting guidance on suicide, self-harm and mental health, and we do not sensationalise. Stories touching on these subjects include details of support services, including Samaritans (116 123). Stories involving child welfare include Childline (0800 1111).
Editorial independence and advertising
Advertising does not buy editorial coverage, and editorial coverage cannot be bought. Newsworthy stories are covered on merit, free of charge, at our discretion. All sponsored or commercial content is clearly labelled as such. We do not sell links within our journalism and we do not accept paid guest posts presented as news. Reviews are independent and cannot be purchased.
Serving all our communities
Our readership spans some of the most diverse — and some of the most economically deprived — communities in Wales, including areas that have lost dedicated local news coverage in recent years. Our journalism is free to read, with no paywall. We are committed to reflecting all of the communities we serve in our reporting, across background, language, identity and circumstance, and to covering the people and places that larger outlets overlook.
Use of technology and AI
We use digital tools, including AI tools, to support tasks such as research, transcription and production. These tools assist our journalism; they do not replace it. Every article we publish is written, reviewed and approved under the direct editorial control of the editor, and responsibility for everything we publish rests with a named human editor. We do not publish AI-generated content without human editorial oversight, and we are transparent about our use of these tools.

If you believe we have published something inaccurate or unfair, contact the editor at editor@swanseabaynews.com or via our Contact page. We review all complaints, respond as quickly as we can, and correct significant errors promptly, with a note where appropriate.
