Police appeal after Penyrheol assault
South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was reportedly assaulted outside Penyrheol Leisure Centre and Comprehensive school complex.
Police report that the man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. It is believed that his injuries are not life threatening.
Enquiries are ongoing into the incident on Pontarddulais Road, which Police say is not connected to Penyrheol Comprehensive or any of its students.
Police are asking anyone who was in the vicinity of Penyrheol Leisure Centre this morning (Tuesday 5 April) between 7.15am and 7.45am that may have information that could assist enquiries are asked to contact them.
There was a large Police presence outside Penyrheol Leisure Centre for much of the morning as an area outside the building was cordoned off.
In an email to parent, Penyrheol Comprehensive School headteacher Damian Benney said: “You may be aware that there was a serious assault on a member of the public at around 7.15am this morning outside the leisure centre.
“As a consequence there is a strong police presence in the front at the leisure centre.
“The assault has nothing to do with any member of our school community and is totally unrelated to any previous events in the community.
“The police have reassured us that our pupils are perfectly safe and that being in school is the best place for them.”
The attack comes just two months after a 14 year-old boy was stabbed at Gorseinon bus station. Four teenagers aged 14 and 15 were arrested in relation to that incident.
