Man dies after car crashes through railings into Swansea Marina

The body of a man has been recovered from a vehicle after it crashed through railings at Swansea Marina and entered the water.

South Wales Police say they were called shortly after 10am this morning after reports of a car going into the water at Swansea Marina.

A body has since been recovered from the vehicle, with the death being described as unexplained by Police.

DI Chris Evans from South Wales Police said: “Emergency services attended, and a car was found fully submerged in the water. The body of a man was located in the car.

“The death is being treated as unexplained at this time and enquiries are continuing to ascertain the full circumstances behind the incident.

“The incident is ongoing whilst the car is being recovered.”

A spokesperson from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, who were also in attandance said: “At 10.01am on Wednesday, August 30th, the Swansea Central, Swansea West and Carmarthen crews were called to an incident at the Maritime Quarter, Swansea.

“One private motor vehicle had driven through a barrier and had entered the water with one person inside the vehicle. 

“Crew members, with the assistance of a commercial diver, rescued the casualty from the submerged vehicle who was then put in the care of the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

“Crews utilised one rescue sled and one underwater camera during the incident.  As well as the HART, the Ambulance Service and South Wales Police were also in attendance.

“Crews left the scene at 11.26am.”
