Danish full back Kristian Pederson, Chelsea’s versatile defender Bashir Humphries, Stoke City full back Josh Tymon and Bournemouth’s Jamal Lowe have all joined the club after a busy 24-hours in South Wales.
Northern Irishman Duff had looked to strengthen his defensive options coming into the final day whilst also acknowledging several positions needed to be strengthened within his team’s ranks.
After signing nine players in his tenure in South Wales, the former Barnsley head-coach had certainly put his stamp on the Swans squad as he looks to build a squad that can meet his ambitions of managing in the Premier League by adding a further four faces.
The loss of several personnel in the close season and talisman Joel Piroe in the last week had left Duff’s side short of numbers coming into the final days of the transfer window. The big hole on the left-hand side a particularly pressing concern that would need to be filled.
Replacing the club’s player of the season Ryan Manning, now at Southampton, with former Swans boss Russell Martin has been a priority for Duff all summer since taking over the coaching reigns and has proved troublesome in solving.
In has come Pederson and Tymon who will now give Swans fans hope that the massive gap left by the Republic of Ireland international will be filled, having seen strong competition formed on the opposite flank now occupied by Josh Key and Harrison Ashby.
Humphreys loan signing from Chelsea will be one for the purist. A ball-playing centre-half that thrives to join in with play in midfield will suit the long-standing philosophy of the club. Whilst Lowe’s loan return will come as a surprise to some but will add much-needed pace to the Swans attack.
On a busy day in South Wales first in for Michael Duff’s side was 29-year-old Danish international left-sided defender Pederson who signed from Cologne.
A left sided centre back, who is equally adept at playing at full-back, Pederson became Duff’s tenth new signing of an active window and will wear the number three shirt for the Swans.
Having made over 100 appearances in four seasons for Birmingham City before his move to Germany in 2022, the Dane will bring needed experience to the Swans youthful backline.
Next came in promising Chelsea youngster Humphreys who joins on a season-long loan. Humphreys was part of England’s under-20 squad at the World Cup this summer and the Swans were reported to have beaten off numerous clubs from the Championship for his signature.
The third incoming of a frantic evening in South Wales saw 29-year-old forward Lowe return to the Swans on loan after a two-year absence. The Jamaican who scored 14 in 58 appearances in his first spell at the club has signed on the dotted line on loan until January and will look to provide welcome support to striker Jerry Yates at the top end of the pitch.
Stoke City full-back Tymon was the final piece to the Duff jigsaw making the switch to SA1 for an undisclosed amount. The rumored fee to be in the region of £2 million agreed with the Potters. The 24-year-old signing a three-year deal at the club.
It is unknown whether the four players will be available for Duff’s sides home fixture against Bristol City, but nevertheless, the Northern Irish head-coach can be pleased with a good day’s worth of business.
