Scans suggest the Swedish winger is now facing a fight to play for the Swans again this season, with head coach Vitor Matos admitting that the injury is a recurrence of an old problem.
The Sweden Under-21 international has endured a mixed campaign, scoring once in 29 appearances, including 12 league starts since joining from BK Hacken.
“It is something regarding a stress fracture, something that he had before, and sometimes with the amount of games, that can aggravate it,” said Matos in his pre-match press conference for the weekend fixture at Watford.
“He will be out for around 10 or 12 weeks. The most important thing is that he returns in good shape.”
Matos, meantime, says Ethan Galbraith is available for Saturday’s trip to Vicarage Road, having returned to full training on Thursday.
The Northern Ireland international was withdrawn at half-time at Hull City last weekend due to an ongoing knee problem.
“Galbraith trained today for the first time since the Hull game, and he will be available for Watford. Apart from that, everyone is good,” said the Swans boss.
The Swans will be looking for an upturn in their away form this weekend against Javi Gracia’s play-off chasing side, having picked up just one victory and three points in six games on the road under Matos.
