Indoor padel is on its way to Llanelli, and the foundations are now down.
Machynys Peninsula Golf Club says the concrete slab has been laid for its new three-court indoor padel centre, which it calls “another major milestone”.
The site sits beside the club’s driving range, across the road from Canolfan Pentre Awel.
Three indoor padel courts at Machynys, to be played all year round
The slab now has to cure before the next stage, when the indoor structure goes up over it, the club says.
It is promising three “premium” courts under one roof, so games can go ahead whatever the weather.
The courts will be run as Padel Wizard at Machynys. The club has not said when they will open, or what a game will cost.

Padel is a cross between tennis and squash, played on a court a third the size of a tennis court and walled in with glass and mesh, so the ball stays in play off the back.
An earlier padel plan at the golf club was turned down
Carmarthenshire Council is reported to have refused an earlier plan for padel courts at the club in August 2025. Those courts were to have had canopy-style roofs.
The club is reported to have gone back with a revised plan, moving the courts further from the nearest homes and adding a noise assessment.
Padel’s boom reaches Llanelli, with a second club joining in
Machynys will not be the only place to play in Llanelli. Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club, off Denham Avenue, says its own new padel courts are launching soon.
It is reported to have applied in January to build two outdoor courts where its old hard courts used to be.
Swansea has gone from two courts in 2023 to hosting a national series in Llansamlet this month.
Six more indoor courts are planned for the Ninja Warrior unit at Parc Tawe.
In Mumbles, Swansea Council has applied to build three on the old seafront tennis courts.
Across Britain, the Lawn Tennis Association puts the number of padel players at more than 1.4 million.
Across the road from Canolfan Pentre Awel, a year on
Canolfan Pentre Awel, the council’s health and leisure centre, turned one earlier this month.
Its exercise classes recorded 69,889 attendances in the first year, Carmarthenshire Council says.
