Ellis Mee has signed a contract extension with the Scarlets, after the best run of form of his career.

The 23-year-old has scored 11 tries in 43 appearances since joining from Nottingham in 2024. The club has not said how long the new deal runs.

Benetton double, Newcastle man of the match and a Wales call-up

Mee scored twice in quick succession as the Scarlets came from 14 points down to beat Benetton 27-26.

A week later, he was man of the match in the 47-14 Challenge Cup rout of Newcastle Red Bulls.

Days after that, he was named in Steve Tandy’s 39-man Wales squad for November’s Nations Championship games.

Mee is one of eight Scarlets in the squad, after Macs Page’s late call-up, and has 11 Wales caps. Wales host Japan at Principality Stadium on Saturday 7 November.

Nigel Davies: Mee has ‘pace, power and an ability to beat defenders’

Director of rugby Nigel Davies said the club were “absolutely delighted” that Mee had committed his future to the Scarlets.

Davies called him “an exciting player, a great character within the group and someone who represents the ambition and energy we’re trying to build”.

He said Mee has “genuine pace, power and an ability to beat defenders”, and is strong in the air and increasingly effective in defence.

Davies said Mee arrived from Nottingham with outstanding natural attributes, but it is his attitude that has stood out. “What has impressed me most is his appetite to learn, his willingness to work and the progress he’s continued to make,” he said.

Keeping the Scarlets’ best young talent

Davies said Mee’s rise reflected the work the club puts into “identifying players, bringing them into our environment and helping them develop”.

Keeping those players matters just as much, he said. “We want to build a competitive Scarlets team, and that means keeping our best young talent, giving them the opportunity to grow together and creating genuine competition for places.”

Ellis Mee: ‘I can’t wait to see what is to come’

Mee said the players had been “so welcoming” since he arrived a couple of seasons ago, “which made the move so much easier for me”.

He credited the coaching staff with helping him grow as a player. “I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had and have learned a huge amount over the last couple of seasons,” he said.

He is already looking ahead. “I can’t wait to see what is to come.”

Mee believes this young squad can build something. “I really think we’ve got something special in this group of lads and there’s a real belief in what we’re trying to build together.”
