A 17-year-old boy has been charged after a 16-year-old girl was robbed at knifepoint in Caewern on Halloween, South Wales Police said.

The robbery happened on Saturday 31 October. The force said the victim, whom it described as vulnerable, was targeted by a masked suspect she did not know.

Officers identified a suspect after going house to house in the area and reviewing CCTV, doorbell footage, mobile phone footage and witness accounts, the force said.

According to police, the suspect first tried to run from officers as he was arrested, then tried to headbutt one of them.

The boy, from Waunceirch, has been charged with robbery and assaulting a constable.

He appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning.

The force said officers had “acted quickly to arrest and charge” him following the robbery in Neath.
