Daniel Gravell, 43, of Porth Y Plas, Johnstown, was convicted last month at Swansea Crown Court of raping a 19-year-old woman in 2002. The court heard that the woman, who had been unwell during a night out, was taken to a friend’s house to rest. She later awoke to find Gravell raping her. Despite telling him to stop, she was unable to resist. Gravell reportedly told her, “It’s ok, it’s ok,” and claimed to be her boyfriend.

In a powerful victim impact statement, the woman described the long-term emotional toll of the assault, saying she had lived with shame and trauma for more than two decades. The judge condemned the attack as a “truly wicked” act that left a lasting scar.

Gravell was also sentenced for a 2021 voyeurism offence, in which he took explicit photographs of another woman without her consent following a consensual sexual encounter. The images were later shared via WhatsApp, further compounding the distress caused.

While Gravell was acquitted of a separate 2022 rape allegation, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on a third charge relating to an alleged offence in 2005.

At a hearing before Judge Geraint Walters on Monday, 7 July, the court confirmed that the retrial for the 2005 allegation will begin on 23 March 2026. The proceedings are expected to last five days.
