Carpetright set to go into administration

Carpet and flooring retailer Carpetright has said that intends to appoint administrators, putting its 272 stores at risk of closure.

The retailer, which locally has stores in Carmarthen, Haverfordwest, Swansea and Bridgend, employs 1,800 staff across the country.

It is one of the UK’s biggest flooring retailers.

Administration firm pwc have reportedly been lined-up to find emergency funding or a rescue buyer for the business.

The company, owned by Nestware Holdings, says it has suffered from weaker demand for carpets as homeowners bought more hard flooring.

The firm also suffered a major cyberattack in April which halted trading.

Kevin Barrett, Chief Executive Officer of Nestware Holdings, said: “We remain focussed on securing external investment to ensure as few customers and colleagues are impacted as possible.

“They are our main priority and we are taking all appropriate action to make sure they are informed and supported through this process.

“We have begun promising conversations with interested parties that are moving in the right direction, encouraging us that Carpetright has a viable future.”
