Two and a half mile novices’ handicap hurdle (2.03)
Miss Kassiopi was the favourite at 4/5, but disappointed on the day and couldn’t do better than third place for Richard Bandey.
Instead, the Jonjo and AJ O’Neill-trained Camshaft became the winner at 14/1 in first-time cheekpieces. The mare was running in a handicap for the first time. Paradise Park was second at 40/1.
Two and a half mile maiden hurdle (2.38)
Here, Rebecca Curtis had the first of her two winners on the day as Sean Bowen rode our tip Doujadou to victory, beating the 10/11 favourite Knead A Win. In the recognisable Haiti Couleurs silks, the six-year-old went clear after the last to win by an impressive 11 lengths.
Race three was a two-mile novices’ hurdle (3.13).
Our second winning favourite of the afternoon came here, as Gavin Sheehan rode Cinquenta to win by six lengths for Lambourn trainer Jamie Snowden. The six-year-old made all and was never passed, having run on well towards the line. My Boy Aaron was second, followed by 200/1 shot Bahati Bahati.
The fourth race was a two and a half mile handicap hurdle (3.50).
James Bowen rode his winner here for Nicky Henderson, another winning favourite, Thewoodcorner at 13/8. Running for Owners Group, the four-year-old beat the stable’s first string, 40/1 shot Tradecraft, who finished third, by over seven lengths. Milldam was second at 11/1.
Race five was a two and a half mile handicap chase (4.20).
Here, Sheila Lewis had her winner with jockey Callum Pritchard, an 11/1 shot L’Empire Vert. The gelding made all and kept on to win by just under three lengths when pushed along by his rider over the final two fences.
Second to last was a three-mile handicap chase (4.50).
Rebecca Curtis had the second leg of her double here, courtesy Ben Jones and 5/2 favourite Bridget Mary. There had been seven starters here, but only two finishers; the winner and River Run Free, who was 89 lengths behind. The Magus fell when leading at the second last, while Bali Body unseated his rider, and the other three pulled up.
Finally, racing concluded with a three-mile handicap hurdle (5.20).
Billy Aprahamian trained the winner, 9/2 shot Glengolly, ridden by Gavin Sheehan. The seven-year-old was equipped with a first-time visor and raced prominently before going clear in the final half furlong to win by over four lengths to the runner-up; Star Turn.
