A new study has revealed that Swansea has seen the highest increase in demand for remote jobs in all of the UK (2018-2021).
Conducted by e-learning platform Preply, the study analyses January 2022 job listings, ranking each job sector by the % of roles that offer the option for remote working.
The analysis also highlights the UK cities seeing the highest increase in demand for those specifically looking for remote work.
As part of the UK workforce headed ‘back to the office’ last month, multiple reports continue to reveal that the majority of Brits do not wish to return to the office in 2022.
Ranking top in the UK, the increase in demand for remote work in Swansea is up by 1,575% over the last 3 years.
Swansea also tops the list for Wales too, with searches 1,125% higher than the second-ranking Welsh city of Wrexham, which has seen a 450% increase in the last 3 years.
IT & Telecoms is the UK’s topmost progressively flexible sector, offering the highest ratio of remote jobs – almost 1/4 of total jobs listed for the sector are remote (23%).
The 2nd and 3rd most progressive sectors are ‘Media, Digital & Creative’ (18%) and Charity & Voluntary (16%).
The average employee is constantly challenged with balancing work with their personal life, so it makes total sense that the flexibility remote working can provide is not something people want to let go of.
Pursuing a career in a sector that adapts to your life by progressively adopting flexi-work structures such as remote work, 4-day working weeks and hybrid roles is becoming an increasingly popular notion.
Whether they’re after a better work-life balance or looking to jet off to work with a view of a sandy beach or mountain landscape, Swansea has seen the highest increase in searches for remote jobs since 2018, with searches up by a whopping 1,575%.
Following Swansea in second place, the highest increase is seen in the city of Leicester, with the 1,239% hike in ‘remote jobs’ searches, meaning that those in Leicester are also England’s topmost remote jobseekers.
England’s second-largest city, Birmingham, has had the third-highest increase (up 971%), followed by Northampton (up 783%) and Leeds (up 766%) respectively.
Scotland’s most avid job hunters hail from Glasgow, where searches for remote work are up by 376% since 2018. Whereas, in Northern Ireland, the capital city of Belfast, takes top place where applicants are evermore keen on finding remote work (+310%).
