Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Naughton, 35, had been one of five players whose deals at the Swans are expiring at the end of the month.
The long-serving right back’s decision to sign new terms will be a massive boost to head-coach Luke Williams who in recent month’s has repeatedly spelled out his admiration for a player who has made more than 300 appearances for the Welsh club since arriving in January 2015.
Naughton’s experience will no doubt be invaluable as the Swans continue their squad re-build this summer. Having enjoyed a fine spell in the side in the back end of last season before seeing his season coming to a premature end through a hamstring injury, Williams will be enthused to see the work ethic of ‘thoroughbred’ Naughton for another 12-months – his tenth season at the club.
Meanwhile, the fate of midfielders Joe Allen, Jamie Paterson, Liam Walsh and winger Przemyslaw Placheta are still to be revealed with more news expected in the next week on whether their futures lie in south Wales.
Speaking to the press at the back end of the season Williams would be full of praise for Naughton:
“What a player he is. He is so gifted. He makes football look simple at times.
“He’s an athletic boy. His brain is so good that he can play without getting into too many difficult situations.
“We will play on tough pitches, or against aggressive opposition, but he is so calm and has so much quality. He sees things that other players wouldn’t be able to see.
“He’s a thoroughbred. That’s why he played in the Premier League because there’s no free ticket, you have to have the talent and you have to work hard.”
