15-year-old boy dies in Aberavon beach incident

A 15-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty in the water off Aberavon beach.

Police, coastguard, an RNLI lifeboat and helicopter were dispatched to Aberavon Beach in a joint rescue operation to the incident which took place yesterday evening (Monday 19 June).

The boy was taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, but sadly later died.

Chief Inspector Richard Haines from South Wales Police said: “Shortly before 7.10pm, officers were called to a report of a boy in the sea at Aberavon Beach, Port Talbot.

“We attended with a number of other emergency services.

“A 15-year-old boy was located and despite the best efforts of members of the public and emergency services he sadly passed away.

“Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact us quoting 2300202601.”
