Swansea fireworks display returns to St Helens on 5 November

Due to the cost of living, Swansea Council who are organising the event, say they have kept prices as low as possible this year – and cheaper than it was five years ago in 2018. Those heading in on the advance sale family ticket will pay just £2 a head.

Gates open at 5pm with pre-show entertainment starting at 5.30pm including glow entertainers, movie-themed attractions and walkabout acts. There will also be visits by favourite film characters including Barbie, Spider-Man, Batman and his Batmobile, Wonder Woman and Star Wars heroes like Boba Fett and Darth Vader.

Local hero Kev Johns will be there as fireworks’ cheerleader-in-chief and there will also be Hollywood-style searchlights illuminating the skyline as well as music and dancing ahead of the main display.

Swansea Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: “We deliver great events for the people of Swansea to enjoy – and this is a key event in our annual programme.

“We recognise the pressures on families so have introduced significant discounts on tickets for residents – compared to 2018 – so we can deliver a safe, exciting  occasion for all the family. 

“For example, a  ticket for a family of five is just £10, equivalent to just £2 each which is  really great value  for an entertaining, safe, family-friendly night out!

“Passport to Leisure member tickets  start  at £2, and an individual adult  advance ticket is just £4 for. For those who want to park nearby we’ve held parking charges at £5 a vehicle, the same price as in previous years.” 

The council has moved the event back to its long-standing, traditional home at St Helen’s after previously trialling staging the show in Swansea Bay so that there’s less risk of a weather-enforced cancellation.

The annual fireworks display in St Helen’s has been running for over 35 years  and the only change to that was when the council laid on free events in 2019 and 2021 as a one-off celebration of the city’s 50^th anniversary and then to encourage people to return to large scale events with more confidence, post-pandemic.  

The council says that despite soaring inflation and increased supplier costs, the event will be returning again this year but, recognising that everyone is feeling the pinch, ticket prices are significantly cheaper than they were in 2018 when a family of five paid £21 and a single adult paid £6.

Cllr Francis-Davies said: “It was very unfortunate we had to cancel last year’s event due to the weather. By returning to St Helen’s this year the chances of a repeat cancellation are significantly reduced.

“We’re very aware that residents continue to struggle with the cost of living which is why we’ve kept prices as low as possible and very competitive.

“We’re anticipating this year’s show will be a spectacular event that will more than match displays we’ve staged in previous years.”
