An Ammanford man has been jailed after police forced their way into his property and found large amounts of cocaine and around £5,500 in cash hidden in boxes and bags.

Ian Stanton, 58, of Maes y Glyn, was sentenced to 38 months in prison at Swansea Crown Court last Friday (2 October).

He wasn’t there when officers arrived. Margaret Lewis, 63, of Tir y Dail Lane, Ammanford, was, and police say she first claimed she was simply housesitting for him.

She was given 18 months, suspended for two years, and must do 200 hours of unpaid work, Dyfed-Powys Police said.

Cocaine, scales and phones found in Ammanford warrant

Officers carried out the warrant on Friday 14 August after a string of intelligence reports about Stanton, the force said.

Inside, they found white powder later confirmed as cocaine, along with scales, plastic packets and several mobile phones.

The cash, around £5,500, was split between different boxes and bags.

Lewis was arrested at the address and charged with possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

Stanton was traced to the Sussex Police area, where he was arrested and brought back to custody in Dyfed-Powys.

He was remanded in custody, as was Lewis.

Both admitted possessing class A drugs with intent to supply when they appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Thursday 17 September.

Police warn drug dealers Dyfed-Powys is “a hostile area”

DC Steven Thomas, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said the case was “another example of intelligence-led policing making Dyfed-Powys a hostile area to people who deal drugs”.

He said: “This was an organised operation that saw Stanton and Lewis putting large amounts of class A drugs into our communities.”

Disrupting it, he added, had “helped us to make them safer for everyone”.

It echoes the force’s warning in August, when a man caught with £40,000 of cannabis in a Carmarthen car park was jailed.
