A drug dealer caught with an estimated £40,000 of cannabis in the boot of his car in a Carmarthen car park has been jailed for two years.

Florin Kasmi, 37, of Golders Green in London, was stopped by Dyfed-Powys Police officers in the car park on Little Water Street on Monday 3 August.

The force said officers had received information that his white MG was being used to carry drugs from England into Carmarthenshire, and had identified a suspicious travel pattern in the vehicle’s movements.

Kasmi was detained under the Misuse of Drugs Act so a search could be carried out.

In the boot, officers found a package wrapped in a black bin bag holding 4.54kg of cannabis split into four vacuum-sealed bags.

In the glove box was a white plastic bag containing more than £12,700 in cash.

A force drugs expert estimated the cannabis could carry a street value of around £40,000.

Kasmi gave no comment in his police interview, but admitted possession with intent to supply class B drugs and possession of criminal property when he appeared at Llanelli Magistrates Court the following day.

He was sentenced to two years in prison on Tuesday 18 August.

DC Tom Morgan, of the force’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit, said: “The distribution of cannabis often relies on serious levels of exploitation at different stages in the supply chain.”

Drug dealing convictions removed harmful drugs from the streets, he said, and tackled “the wider drugs network that exists to exploit vulnerable people”.

“Regardless of where you come from, if you bring drugs into the Dyfed-Powys area, you will be caught and you will be dealt with robustly,” he added.

DC Morgan said the sentencing highlighted the force’s commitment to “making Dyfed-Powys hostile to those who deal drugs”.

It is the force’s latest supply-line case this summer, weeks after eight people were convicted of flooding Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire with cocaine brought in from Cardiff and Bristol.
