A Swansea drug dealer has been jailed for five years and seven months, after police rang a crack cocaine supply line and found the phone beside a mattress.

Mustafa Al-Khafaji admitted being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court, South Wales Police said.

The phone beside the mattress

The force’s Serious Organised Crime Team had identified a mobile phone being used to arrange the supply of crack cocaine.

On 5 September, officers making arrest inquiries rang the number they were investigating, and found the phone beside a mattress, police said.

They recovered crack cocaine, along with scales and snap bags holding residue and bicarbonate of soda.

Police have not given Al-Khafaji’s age, or said where in Swansea the phone was found.

“We will act on that information”: what police said

Detective Sergeant Heather Southway said the force was “committed to targeting those involved in the supply of illegal drugs who cause significant harm to communities across south Wales”.

She urged anyone with information about drug dealing in their area to come forward, saying police “will act on that information wherever possible”.

A run of Class A jailings in Swansea this month

Earlier this month, two men were jailed for more than 12 years between them after officers caught a heroin and crack deal outside a home in Hafod.

A London dealer who bit a police officer as he was arrested by the Matthew Street flats in Dyfatty was jailed for 32 months.

And last week, a Pontlliw man was jailed for six years and nine months over a plot to hide ketamine and cocaine inside rope and ship them to New Zealand.

Anyone who suspects drug dealing can call South Wales Police on 101. Reports can also be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
