Burry Port man charged with murder of Llanelli mum-of-two

A man has been charged with murder following the death of Sophie Evans in Llanelli.

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police said: “Police were called to an address in Bigyn Road on Friday, July 5, where 30-year-old Sophie was sadly found to have died.

“A murder enquiry was launched, with Richard Jones, of Y Rhodfa in Burry Port arrested later that day.

“Officers have today charged the 49-year-old, who was known to Sophie, with her murder.

“Jones has been remanded into custody and will appear at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Friday, July 12).

“Our thoughts are with Sophie’s family at this time, and they continue to receive support from specialist officers.

“The investigation team is grateful for the support of the community, while enquiries have been carried out.”

Sophie’s family yesterday paid tribute to the mum-of-two, describing her as “beautiful in every way” who was “tragically taken” in the incident.
