A former teacher has been found not guilty of raping a teenager at his family home near Carmarthen in 2001.
Daniel Gravell, of Porth-y-Plas, Johnstown, was acquitted of indecently assaulting and raping the teenager in his bedroom following a two-week trial at Swansea Crown Court.
His defence was that the alleged incident “simply never happened”.
The jury failed to reach verdicts on two further allegations of rape, and was discharged on Monday after deliberating for more than seven hours.
Those allegations related to a teenager outside the Carmarthen Athletic RFC clubhouse in Carmarthen town centre in 2005, and a woman in a bedroom at the Baltic Inn in Pontyates, which Gravell was running at the time, in 2021.
Gravell accepted he had sex with both women on the days in question, but said the encounters were consensual.
The jury was told Gravell had been convicted in May 2025 of raping a 19-year-old woman in Carmarthen in 2002, and of a voyeurism offence.
He is serving a nine-year sentence for those offences. Questioned about the conviction during the trial, he told the jury: “I will never accept I was guilty.”
Judge Paul Thomas KC gave the prosecution seven days to decide whether to seek a retrial on those two allegations.
It is the second time a jury has been unable to reach a verdict on the 2005 allegation, after the jury at his 2025 trial also failed to agree on it.
Discharging the jury, the judge thanked jurors for their service and the attention they had given the case.
