The 29-year-old defender will become a Swansea player on July 1, having agreed a three-year contract, with the club understood to have fended off considerable competition in securing the Australian international’s services.
Centre back Burgess, becomes the fifth arrival of the summer to date, with Swedish duo Melker Widell, Zeidane Inoussa, Scottish forward Bobby Wales and Portuguese defender Ricardo Santos arriving in South Wales this summer.
A vastly-experienced and proven centre-half, Australia international Burgess has just helped the Socceroos secure their place at the 2026 World Cup finals and will give head coach Alan Sheehan a much-needed presence in a young squad.
Born in Scotland, Burgess leaves Ipswich Town, having played a key role in the Tractor Boys’ rise to the Premier League.
A centre-half by trade, Burgess is a no-nonsense defender but also has an excellent ability to play from the back on his left foot.
The Australian played a peripheral figure in the Ipswich side last season, but still amassed 18 top-flight appearances, having been a first-choice starter during their League One and Championship promotion campaigns. Burgess also started in both of the East-Anglian clubs’ wins over the Swans during the 2023-24 season.
Having moved to Australia from Scotland aged 11, Burgess returned to the UK with Fulham aged 15. Spells at Ross County, Cheltenham Town, Oldham Athletic, Bury, Scunthorpe United, Salford City, and Accrington Stanley saw the Aussie learn his trade before he made his mark at Ipswich in 2021.
A veteran of over 300 EFL league appearances under his belt, Burgess made 120 appearances in all competitions for Kieran McKenna’s side and has won 17 caps for his country during that period.
Thrilled head coach Alan Sheehan speaking on the capture said:
“We are delighted that Cameron will be joining us at Swansea City.
“He is an experienced and consistent performer who has risen up through the divisions in the last few years and become a full international.
“During our conversations, Cameron really bought into what we are trying to do at Swansea, and I believe he will be a great addition for us on and off the pitch driving standards throughout the club, and we look forward to getting to work with him.
Director of football Richard Montague added:
“We are very pleased to have been able to add a player of Cameron’s pedigree and experience to our squad ahead of the new season.
“To bring in a player who has recently played Premier League football and been part of a successful period at his previous club is very positive.
“There was considerable interest in Cameron from a number of clubs, and we are delighted he felt that Swansea City was the right choice for him.”
