Crystal Isla got the card up and running with victory in the opener – a two and a half mile novices’ hurdle – for powerful trainer Nicky Henderson and jockey Nico de Boinville, a one and a quarter length scorer from Fairye Forth and the winner obliging as an even-money favourite.
Race two was one for the bookies as 28/1 shot Fanny Moon landed victory in the three-mile handicap hurdle for trainer Mel Rowley after favourite Golden Prince had pulled out in the afternoon. The winner would romp home a comfortable three-length scorer, having taken the lead at the last hurdle, which was actually the second last owing to the final flight being omitted due to damage.
A field of seven headed to post for the two-and-a-half-mile handicap chase, and trainer Tom Ellis picked up the win in this one with Latenightrumble, another decent-priced winner at 17/2 by a length from Lermoos Legend in second and Brulure Noire in third.
Jockey Bowen picked up the first of his three wins on the card with our pick Trust House in the two mile handicap hurdle, a cosy three length winner at odds-on for trainer Olly Murphy, before Bowen teamed up with handler David Rees to land the three mile handicap chase up next with Esperti, a 7/2 winner by three and a quarter lengths to hand us a quick fire double with 11/1 chance Valirann Gold in second.
Welsh jockey Bowen then made it a hat-trick, and a second win on the day with trainer Murphy, on board Lemon Leaf in the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle, going clear inside the final 110 yards and winning readily, having fought his way through the field.
Finally, the card came to a close with another two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle, and this one went the way of Lion Of The Desert for trainer Grace Harris and jockey Joe Anderson, who steered his runner to a two-length success at odds of 5/1 to round off the Ffos Las card.
