On the eve of the regions URC match against Ulster this weekend the signalling of Edwards to commit his near future to the Ospreys will be met with delight by all around the club.
20-year-old Edwards follows Keelan Giles,Tom Botha and Max Nagy this week in signing a new deal with the current squad fully buying into the project head coach Toby Booth has been leading at the Swansea.com Stadium over the past few seasons.
Edwards is one of the regions breakthrough stars this term, a standout who has risen through the ranks of the clubs player pathway development system.
A crucial player for Wales’ under-20s squad in recent times, Edwards’ performances have not only drawn attention from coaches but have also earned him a well-deserved tag as a rising star within the club’s senior side.
The young fly-half had a debut to remember this season against the Scarlets, scoring a superb try back in November. Edwards has since made his first start for the team, making six appearances in total, whilst picking up 26 points in the process.
He is likely to continue his place at ten with Owen Williams unavailable for the home match against the physical Irish province this weekend with no doubt Welsh national scouting eyes will be firmly fixed on his performance.
A product of Cwmafan RFC, Edwards has been part of the Ospreys’ development pathway for a few years now, honing his skills and developing his game in the same soil that has produced rugby legends.
This new contract signifies the Ospreys’ promise to give young Welsh talent like Edwards the platform to excel at the highest levels of the game.
