Crews from Neath, Port Talbot, Swansea Central, Morriston and Tumble were called to Furnace Terrace, Neath, on the morning of 1 October, after flames tore through a two‑storey end‑terrace house. Firefighters used hose jets, ladders and an aerial appliance to bring the blaze under control.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that all persons were accounted for and no casualties were reported, but the property was “significantly damaged” and a neighbouring house also suffered partial damage.
Appeal launched
Now, a GoFundMe appeal has been set up by Lexi Thomas, from Port Talbot, to support her sister Danielle and her family, who lost most of their belongings in the fire.
Lexi said the family were devastated by the scale of the damage, and donations will go directly towards helping Danielle with urgent needs including housing, food, clothing and furniture.
So far, more than £1,700 has been raised towards a £6,000 target.
The fundraiser can be found here: Housing fire. Food clothing furniture.
“We lost everything apart from our lives”
Danielle’s partner, Paul Clarke, has also spoken on social media about the impact of the fire.
In a Facebook post, he wrote:
“Today we lost everything apart from our lives. I cannot believe how fast our home disappeared. I’m so grateful this did not happen at night and the kids were in school.”
He added that while the family did not expect anything, they were touched by the support shown locally:
“We are alive and that’s what matters.”
Community support
Lexi has also appealed for clothing donations for the family, sharing details of the sizes needed for both adults and children.
The family say they are overwhelmed by the kindness shown so far, as neighbours, friends and strangers rally to help them rebuild their lives.
