Developed to perfectly pair with gourmet fast food, Greasy Fingers has launched two wines – a luscious red and a big buttery chardonnay. Now, in a mouth-watering move, the wine has launched a national search to find Britain’s best burger-loving palate.
To prove they’re worthy of becoming Britain’s first Burger Sommelier, applicants will have to use all their meaty knowledge to impress some top burger expert judges including foodie filmmaker duo, TopJaw, and two-time National Best Burger winning chef, Nick Watkins.
No official training is necessary, the team is simply searching for people from across the UK with an unadulterated love of burgers and a non-pretentious penchant for wine. The applicants will be challenged to describe their dream burger in the style of a sommelier, and will be judged on elements such as choice of bun, patty, garnish and general imagination. The winning contestant will then be granted the unique opportunity to create two signature recipes that perfectly pair with Greasy Fingers, which will be added to the menus of some of the nation’s most loved burger restaurants, including through Uber Eats.
As well as being named Britain’s first Burger Sommelier, the prize includes a year’s worth of burgers and Greasy Fingers wine – all in the name of research for the perfect pairing.
Lucy Bearman, Wine & Champagne Portfolio Director for Pernod Ricard UK, comments: “With Greasy Fingers, we’re returning to the heart of wine, which is pairing it with food, but doing so with a meal that resonates more with the next generation of wine drinkers – burgers. We’re so excited to have enlisted the help of top experts in choosing our winner and can’t wait to taste the burger recipes that our new Burger Sommelier creates.”
Nick Watkins, Founder of El Perro Negro, comments: “After taking the crown twice for the UK’s best burger, I know what the nation is after when it comes to patties. I’d encourage applicants to think about what makes their taste buds tingle, whether that’s flavour combinations, sauces, or garnishes – and most importantly, what would wash down nicely with a glass of Greasy Fingers!”
Greasy Fingers is available in Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Morrisons, with e-commerce options through Ocado and Amazon.
