Idah set for spell on sidelines after hamstring injury

Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos says striker Adam Idah will miss the rest of the festive period as the club await further clarification of the hamstring problem that kept the former Celtic man out of the 1-0 loss to Coventry on Boxing Day.

Swansea City striker Adam Idah is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Idah, the late matchwinner against Wrexham eight days ago, is believed to have sustained the muscular injury in training in the lead-up to the match with league leaders Coventry City.

“He got injured in the last training session. He is being assessed to see the extent of that,” said Matos.

The Swans fell to their fifth defeat on the road in a row, and fourth loss in Matos’ seven games as Swansea head coach courtesy of Ephron Mason-Clark’s close-range finish just before the break.

A spirited performance saw them rally against the league leaders but a lack of cutting edge in the final third meant Matos’ men went back to south Wales empty handed.

The Swans now conclude 2025 with a trip to the Kassam Stadium to face managerless Oxford United on Monday evening sitting in 20th – and only four points clear of the relegation zone.

The U’s, buoyed by Boxing Day’s victory over Southampton, under caretaker head coach Craig Short, leaves them four points and one place behind the Swans in 21st.

Matos is expecting an improved showing from the side beaten 2-0 at the Swansea.com stadium three weeks ago, in the reverse fixture, and says his side will be expecting a different challenge.

“We played each other recently and we got the win, but we need to treat this as a completely different game.

“They have a different manager, they are at home, so it is going to be a different task to the one we had at home.

“We are building, every game is feedback. Every situation is something we need to analyse and see what we need to improve.

“Step by step we need to keep going. I was really proud to see us playing against Coventry in their stadium, in this way, trying to dominate them and trying to be competitive against one of the best teams.

“We need to keep believing that the better we play, the more close we are to winning; the better we press, the more close we are to winning; the better we have the ball, the more close we are to winning.

“We need to keep pushing ourselves to start climbing the table.”
