JAILED: Eight years for Brynmill man who attacked a woman walking alone at night

A man who attacked a woman walking alone at night in Swansea has been jailed for eight years.

Mohangopi Tadiboyina, 30, of Brynmill, was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on Friday 4 September for one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault.

A jury found him guilty of both counts on Monday 20 July, at the end of a three-day trial.

Her Honour Judge Catherine Richards heard the trial and passed sentence.

The attack happened on Kings Road in October 2024, South Wales Police said.

The force said Tadiboyina targeted the woman while she was walking the street at night.

She was able to get away from him afterwards and alerted a passer-by, who helped her report what had happened.

Detective Sergeant Samuel Lewis said the case was built by the officer who led it, PC Bendrey, and that her work was what put Tadiboyina behind bars.

“PC Bendrey led a thorough and professional investigation, ensuring that all available lines of enquiry were pursued,” he said.

He said the sentence had taken a dangerous offender off the streets. “Not only has justice been secured for the victim, but a dangerous offender has been removed from the community, providing reassurance to both the victim and the wider public.”

DS Lewis added that the woman had told officers she was pleased with the sentence, and was grateful to everyone who worked on the case.
