The Ospreys were without 22 first team squad members for the URC clash and valiantly battled throughout the contest to earn themselves a crucial losing bonus point.
The Welsh region went ahead through a try through stand in scrum half Luke Davies and held their own as they went into the break 5-5 after Tom Currie had replied for the home side.
A Phil Cokanasiga score put the Ospreys back in front after the break, before a tries from Harri Morris and Harry Paterson ultimately sealed the victory for Edinburgh.
The Ospreys would show spirit to fight back with a late Evardi Boshoff dot down, but it would not be enough to secure victory.
The travelling side though, would pick up a losing bonus point for their efforts and now lie in 13th place in the URC table, whilst Edinburgh move up to 10th.
“Every game you don’t win is not the result you want,” said Jones after the game.
“We came up here with a hope that we could get a result with the team we had out at the start of the game and the work that we have done in the last three- or four-week block.
“We thought if we were able to add those work ons we would have a good chance and that proved to be the case.
“That’s all you can ask as a coach is to get the best out of the group you have got, and I thought we did in this game.
“There were some less familiar names on the team sheet, less experienced players in some instances, but we had some players back like Sam Parry co-captaining the team and Ryan Smith coming in.
“I think people have seen what he [Smith] is going to bring over the coming season, and I think you saw some of the younger talent as well.
“We know when we play to our level, we are a good side, and I think for large portions of our games we have played at a good standard.
“We know that it’s about 80-minute performances and need to start chipping into that last part of the game to start turning some of these tight plucky performances into incredible wins.
“The boys want to win and get into the play-offs and win matches, there is no better feeling and as coaches we want to make that happen for them.”
