Margaret, who was born on June 3, 1924, has adored elephants since she was a child. When Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn care home colleagues discovered Margaret’s passion for elephants, they arranged for the resident to participate in World Elephant Day Walk at Swansea Bay as part of Margaret’s 100th birthday celebrations – in aid of 2Wish Cymru.
2Wish Cymru is a charity which aims to support families who experience sudden deaths. Margaret and the care team supporting her, including Claire Davies, Wellbeing Coordinator, and Lisa Llewellyn, Home Manager, were dressed as elephants in fancy dress and they all raised money for the 2Wish Charity.
The walk took place on the Swansea seafront and it was a total of five kilometres. All participants are encouraged to take the walk at their own pace and enjoy the day. Despite the drizzle, the weather did not dampen the fun and Margaret enjoyed the day out by crossing the finish line and posing for photos along with colleagues.

Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn resident, Margaret Wellington, said:
“It’s been an amazing day. I loved it and I gained another elephant!”
Lisa Llewellyn, Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn care home manager, commented:
“Margaret loved everyone making a fuss of her, especially when the organisers announced that they had a special guest who was 100 years old taking part! It was so nice hearing everyone cheer and clap for Margaret, she was so happy.”
