Porthcawl man jailed for string of domestic violence attacks against ex partner

Daniel Kiddier, 36, has been given a five-year and three-month prison sentence after being found guilty of 12 offences.  

Kiddier, from New Road in Porthcawl, was sentenced on Thursday (29 February) at Cardiff Crown Court. He had previously been found guilty at trial at Newport Crown Court earlier in February of 11 counts of engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard how he had repeatedly struck his ex-partner with the back of a meat cleaver and punched her in the head after she tried to move on from their two and a half year violent relationship.

This included multiple incidents where the victim was strangled or pushed to the floor causing cuts, bruises, and swelling.

Detective Constable Tyler Rowland from South Wales Police said: “Daniel Kiddier has been sentenced today for 12 domestic abuse offences.

“I want to thank the victim in this case for their courage in reporting these incidents to us and seeing it through the judicial process. 

“Being a victim of coercive and controlling behaviour has a huge impact on the victim, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

“Daniel Kiddier has now been sentenced to over five years in prison.  I welcome this sentence, which shows that domestic abuse is not only taken seriously by South Wales Police but also the courts. 

“I would urge any victims who have suffered domestic abuse in any form to come forward and report it to us or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”
