PURE SWANSEA: Three called up for Wales as Midwinter hails ‘bright future’ trio

Three Pure Swansea players have been called up by Tîm Rhanbarthol Cymru, the Wales regional representative side, in what the club believes is a first in its history.

Full-back Dan Ingram, forward Casey Coughlin and winger Mason Kelly were named in Gruff Harrison’s squad, having started the season with four wins from four for the Novira Cymru South leaders.

The 18-man squad will compete in the intermediate round of the 2026/27 UEFA Regions’ Cup in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 2 and 8 September. The competition is UEFA’s tournament for amateur and semi-professional players, with each association represented by a regional side.

Manager Jack Midwinter said he had made the case for his players as soon as the new man came in.

“When Gruff got the job, he contacted me early and we had a chat about players who were available,” Midwinter told Swansea Bay News.

“I spoke my case for every player that we had that was available for that squad, really. But Dan, Casey and Mason have been brilliant for us and thoroughly deserve the recognition that they’re getting.”

A fourth player was selected but will not travel.

“I think it’s also important to shout out Jacob Lund, who was also selected but due to eligibility rules which nobody was really aware of, he’s not in the squad,” Midwinter said.

“Then we’ve got other players who unfortunately are either a little bit too young or have already played in the Welsh Premier League and don’t meet that criteria as well.”

For a club rebuilt and renamed inside the past two years, the recognition matters.

“As a club, we’re really proud. I think in the past only Noah Osbourne has represented the club at this level,” he said.

“Now to have three more people able to do that is great. And Dan’s 20, Mason’s 19 and Casey’s 22, so they’re all young lads with a bright future in the game as well.

“Hopefully the boys go away and learn something. They’re young, they’re like sponges. They’ll try and learn and hopefully they’ll bring that experience back to us and make us better.”

All three have been central to the perfect start.

Coughlin is the club’s top scorer with five, including a hat-trick at Baglan Dragons. Kelly was man of the match on the opening day at Llantwit Major, where he scored and created another, and has three goal involvements since. Ingram has supplied assists in three of the four games, including both of the first two goals in Friday’s 5-1 win at Caerau Ely.

Kelly’s call-up follows his selection for South Wales against North Wales earlier this year, a fixture South Wales won.
